Richard Jordan is a Professor in Yamagata University, who specializes in 1)  the taxonomy and ecology of marine phytoplankton (notably diatoms, Parmales, archaeomonads, and coccolithophorids), 2) marine diatoms from polar regions and coral reef ecosystems (e.g. in sea ice and farmer fish algal turfs), and 3) the evolution of marine diatoms using deep sea drilling cores and outcrop samples (Cretaceous-Present).
